Women and War: "Points of View"
To mark this year's International Women's Day, we invited ICRC staff in Geneva to reflect on an array of photographs highlighting the theme of Women and War. The photo collection "Points of View" presents a series of 19 pictures taken by a variety of photographers worldwide and accompanied by a selection of personal observations.

"I remember this photo very well from when I was working in Huambo. These women appeared to be weak and fragile. But they were strong. It was good to provide them with a little help. Not everything, because they were very strong themselves. And I think from my experience working with the ICRC, women seem to be the most vulnerable and the most fragile, but very often these women during and after conflict, carry on working, cultivating the land, carry on bringing up children and at the same time staying positive."

Fernando Vega Bernal, coordinator - armed forces programmes
