Women and War: "Points of View"

To mark this year's International Women's Day, we invited ICRC staff in Geneva to reflect on an array of photographs highlighting the theme of Women and War. The photo collection "Points of View" presents a series of 19 pictures taken by a variety of photographers worldwide and accompanied by a selection of personal observations.

Macedonia: An elderly woman gets in touch with relatives through a mobile telephone provided by the ICRC.

"I can't help thinking that if that had been my mother, what it would have meant to her, what it would have meant to me, if we had been through the same as this woman and her family had been. And if we'd been able to re-establish contact, what it would have meant, how it would have changed everything for her, and what a feeling of relief and joy."
