Uganda: improving the lives of over half a million displaced people
It is estimated that the decade-long conflict in Uganda has forced over 1.7 million people from their homes into camps for the displaced. In February-March 2007, the ICRC distributed substantial aid to some 560,000 displaced people currently living in camps, returning to their homes or resettling after years of displacement.

ICRC treating children for parasites in the Pader district – Some 60,000 children living in 12 camps in northern Uganda benefited from a deworming campaign in 2006. Children between the ages of 1 and 14 – an age group particularly vulnerable to worms – receive a single dose of Albendazole, a medicine effective against intestinal worm infestation. The treatment counters the consequences of chronic worm infection such as anaemia, stunted growth, poor intellectual development and damage to vital organs and can lead to a 10% gain in weight. The ICRC carries out such campaigns twice a year in conjunction with Uganda's district health services.
