It is of utmost importance that human remains be properly handled in order to protect valuable information. Today, there is a forensic component to virtually every missing persons file. In Peru, the ICRC continues with its efforts to clarify the fate of people who went missing during the protracted armed conflict (1980-2000), in particular by supporting local forensic structures with advice, guidelines and training for local experts.
