The issue of disappearances must be seriously addressed. It is urgent and vital that the right of families to know the fate of their loved ones be upheld. The ICRC’s work has shown that a difference can be made, insofar as long-term and far-reaching commitment exists on the part of governments, humanitarian organizations and the families themselves. Though it might take a generation or more, it is essential to persevere, for there are families of missing people everywhere who deserve at least an answer.
