11-09-2009 News release 09/181 Burkina Faso: Red Cross aids flood victims Abidjan (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Burkinabé Red Cross Society have launched an emergency aid operation for some 5,000 victims of flooding in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Starting this weekend, people suffering the consequences of torrential rain will be receiving such emergency items as plastic sheeting, sleeping mats, clothing, jerrycans, blankets, soap and cooking utensils. They will also receive food. The operation is being conducted in close cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
