The ICRC in Jordan

A child who has fled Iraq to seek refuge at the border with Jordan.
The ICRC in Jordan makes regular visits to detainees, to monitor their treatment and living conditions and to help them maintain links with their families. It also helps in the transfer, between the West Bank and Jordan, of people needing medical attention.

The delegation works with the Jordan National Red Crescent Society to promote international humanitarian law, through encouraging national legislation and through programmes for universities, schools and the armed forces.

The ICRC has had a delegation in Amman since 1967.

Presence (2009): 145 staff, including 22 expatriates.
