Gaza: the crisis continues without the prospect of lasting peace
Three months after Israel’s military operation, people in the Gaza Strip still struggle to exist. Tens of thousands have had their homes wrecked. Aid has been pledged, but without a courageous peace process, no meaningful reconstruction can take place.

Home to this family is a neighbour’s empty yard, right next to the road. They have lived here since their home was destroyed, with no shelter, no sanitation and no privacy. They depend on daily food rations from aid organizations to stay alive.

Other families live with relatives but in very cramped conditions. Nobody is likely to be rebuilding any time soon: it is almost impossible to find cement and other building supplies in Gaza because of the Israeli closure imposed on the Strip. Reconstruction materials are simply not allowed in.
