This Palestinian woman cannot conceal her distress. Aid distributions can arouse strong feelings among beneficiaries – they are dependent on aid and grateful for it, but every item received reminds them of their helplessness and of their loss and renews their sense of humiliation. The fact that there is no choice does not help. In this, as in so many earlier crises, these families will have to come to terms with their losses and try to get on with their lives.
