| Section The ICRC in Hungary This country is covered by the regional delegation in SerbiaThe ICRC in the Western Balkans After more than 12 years, the ICRC regional delegation for Central Europe based in Budapest closed in August 2009. Some activities continue from the regional delegation in Belgrade, such as training programmes involving armed and security forces or efforts to incorporate international humanitarian law (IHL) into national legislation. Since 1997, the ICRC has been maintaining a broad network of contacts with governments, academic circles, civil society and the media in Central Europe to stimulate awareness and debate on humanitarian issues. It has also cooperated with the national Red Cross societies of the region to help develop their tracing and IHL promotion activities. In Hungary itself, the ICRC carried out humanitarian activities during World War I, World War II and the 1956 uprising. 3-6-2005 Croatia: still searching for answers on the missingMore than 2,500 people are still listed as missing in connection with the conflicts that affected Croatia between 1991 and 1995. Their families have filed tracing requests and reports on death with the ICRC or with national Red Cross societies in the region and worldwide.
