The medical profession and the effects of weapons
This symposium examined the responsibility of the medical profession in relation to both the global epidemic of injuries caused by modern weapons and the development of weapons of the future. The participants recommended that the ICRC take a lead role in the documentation, definition and communication of the effects of weapons. This would represent an important step in limiting the suffering caused by weapons and in obtaining respect for international humanitarian law.
