Surprise visit from young donors
18-08-2011
On Thursday 21 July, Elvira David Coppex from the ICRC's Private Sector Fundraising Unit had the pleasant surprise of meeting a small group of private donors, completely out of the blue.
The donors, all under the age of 10, came to headquarters clutching an envelope containing about 37 dollars. They explained that they had collected the money from friends and neighbours during a garage sale they had held in the US city of Boston at the beginning of the summer.
Since they were in Geneva, staying with their cousins, Gibran, Anais and Diego had asked their mother to bring them to the ICRC to hand over themselves the donation that they had collected back home along with their friends Nicholas, Babar and Evan. Their mother made it clear that they had decided on their own that they wanted to give the money to the ICRC, to support its work around the globe.
After hearing more about their fundraising venture and answering their questions about the history of the ICRC, Elvira immortalized the moment with this photo.
Expressions of solidarity by donors as young as this are signs that the ICRC's work really does speak to all generations.
