Kristalina Georgieva is European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response. Before joining the European Commission in February 2010, Commissioner Georgieva held various positions at the World Bank as Environmental Economist, then Senior Environmental Economist, and as Sector Manager on Environment for the East Asia and Pacific Region. From 2000 to 2004 she was Director in charge of World Bank environmental strategy, policies, and lending, and in 2004 became World Bank Director for the Russian Federation. From 2007 to 2008 she held the position of Director for Sustainable Development and was appointed Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the World Bank Group.
