Afghanistan: Helping families stay in touch

27-02-2014 Feature

All over the world, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movements helps families separated by conflict to maintain contact. The ICRC and the Afghan Red Crescent collected over 16,400 Red Cross messages and delivered over 15,000 in Afghanistan during 2013, most of them between detainees and their families. Over 6,000 other families kept in contact with their detained relatives through ICRC-facilitated phone calls . Tracing missing persons is another key element of the ICRC's work. The search can take years, but positive results make the effort worthwhile.
