A photo exhibition opened on 28 July 2009 in Asunción's " Centro comercial del Sol " shopping centre.
Sixty people attended the opening, where they were received by Michel Minnig, the ICRC's regional delegate for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Paraguayan Red Cross president Luís Fernando Díaz de Bedoya and the Swiss ambassador Emanuel Jenni both spoke at the opening, referring to the origins of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and its emblems.
The exhibition presents the humanitarian activities of the Movement with special reference to the phenomenon that spurred its creation -- war -- and includes photos of the work carried out in the region by the ICRC and other components of the Movement.
The exhibition was on show for three weeks at the shopping centre, which receives some 400,000 visitors a month.
