On World Food Day, the ICRC is highlighting the importance of small farmers for the survival of people affected by war. When market stalls are empty, when prices put food out of reach, smallholders take on a vital role. Around the world, the ICRC is helping local farmers feed themselves and the communities to which they belong.

Senior ICRC agronomist Fabien Pouille explains how small farmers keep people alive when war and disaster strike, and talks about the ways the ICRC is helping them to do just that.
