In the 15 years since the Good Friday peace agreement, the people of Northern Ireland have seen great progress. But residual violence and the after-effects of conflict continue to have a humanitarian impact. Pierre Krähenbühl, our director of operations, explains in this interview how the ICRC is tackling problems linked to conflict and its after-effects. The ICRC's work ranges from supporting community efforts to end punishment beatings to making recommendations on improving the detention system.
