Georgia: One warm room

10-03-2014 Feature

Some of the people displaced by conflict in Georgia have been living in dilapidated housing since the 1990s. Many pensioners and others on low incomes cannot afford to replace the rotten window frames, damp walls and bare concrete floors that make for harsh living conditions. In 2013, with ICRC support, the Georgia Red Cross Society renovated one room per house in 150 homes, ensuring that their occupants had at least "one warm room."

Reactions from project participants: "Our life will be much better than before" … "This is the first time in 23 years that we received support" … "I am rediscovering my lust for life"
