the ICRC works to improve the availability of medical services in conflict-affected areas of Afghanistan. In June 2006, at a time when the conflict was intense, an ICRC assessment of the needs of those injured or otherwise affected by the fighting led to the creation the War Wounded Assistance Programme. Through this programme, the ICRC assists victims of the conflict in all five regions in Afghanistan. There are four components: training, supply, transport of the wounded, and first aid.
