For many students, this is a first encounter with what it's like to argue in a courtroom. This annual competition challenges law students from around the Philippines to engage with international humanitarian law—the rules that limit suffering in armed conflict for humanitarian reasons.
Growing in popularity since 2005, the annual competition is hosted jointly by the ICRC and Philippine Red Cross in partnership with the Supreme Court and the Philippine Association of Law Schools. The event takes place in the Philippines, with similar competitions held in different regions of the world. They are designed to support the ICRC's mandate to promote and develop IHL, complementing the ICRC's mission to protect and assist persons affected by armed conflict.
