Your Tasks

  • To improve access to and quality of obstetrical and gynaecological care in Mirwais Hospital, Kandahar
  • Assess the situation in detail for maternal health as well as for gynaecological care in the Mirwais Hospital
  • Plan and implement improvement and development of the organisation of the Department in collaboration with national counterparts in the Hospital as well as at the Provincial Health Directorate level.
  • Assess the opportunities for improvement of quality of care and make an implementation plan in collaboration with the Hospital management team and the ICRC team
  • Work in collaboration with the national counterpart and stakeholders to improve care seeking behaviour and accessibility to care by all social groups
  • Support the Hospital Directorate as well as the Department responsible in key management issues
  • Plan and start implementation of a training program for the hospital doctors of this speciality and nurses/midwives
  • Create close collaboration with the Institute of Health Sciences in Kandahar and with UNICEF.
  • Network with other health actors in the area in order to have clear and timely picture of the care needs in the southern region.
  • Advice the colleagues responsible for ICRC supply pipeline, in collaboration with the ICRC team in Mirwais as well as with the Health-Co, on requisition of essential renewable material as well as equipment for the Department.
  • Participate actively in the program development

Selection requirements

  • Experienced specialist medical doctor, speciality obstetrics and gynaecology with emphasis in maternal health with a minimum of 2 years professional experience
  • Previous experience in maternal health care in developing country(ies)
  • Able to perform and teach operative care.
  • Previous experience in departmental management
  • Previous ICRC experience is an asset but not a pre-requisite.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • excellent command of English
  • driving licence (must cover manual transmission – a licence for automatic-transmission vehicles only is not sufficient)
