Purpose of the Post:

In order to ensure the predictable funding of its operations, the ICRC has set itself the goal to increase income from private fundraising streams.  The Corporate Fundraising Manager will join a growing professional team and will develop relationships with an existing file of companies and associations whilst also researching and leading new approaches to corporate supporters in Switzerland and internationally.

The post-holder will work closely with colleagues managing ICRC’s Corporate Support Group, also building relationships and coordination with staff in national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in order to maximize the value of corporate support.  

Main responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Head of Leadership Giving and the Corporate Support Group (CSG) lead, developing sustainable plans for ICRC’s fundraising with Switzerland-based associations, Swiss and International companies
  • Provide an account management service to existing supporters, maximising the value of their long-term support and ensuring that they well-informed and motivated to support the ICRC’s work
  • Develop a systematic approach to generating new business, ensuring that long term financial value is prioritised. Work with colleagues to prepare and deliver winning presentations to prospective supporters
  • Ensure that this work complements and supports the Corporate Support Group programme, working closely with key staff to steward supporters towards a long term “shared value” approach
  • Work closely with colleagues in ICRC responsible for non financial corporate engagement. Recognising the sensitivity of their work whilst taking care to develop fundraising opportunities where these are appropriate
  • Ensure that the ICRC’s Ethical Policy and policy regarding use of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Emblems are followed at all times. Taking the advice of senior staff when appropriate
  • Work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent  Societies to ensure that donor approaches are coordinated and that win-win strategies are in place resulting in increased funds going to the Movement for the protection and assistance of victims of conflict and other situations of violence
  • Work with the Divisional Reporting Officer and colleagues in other departments to ensure that funding proposals and reports are accurate, support operational priorities and long-term fundraising goals
  •  Ensure that the work is following both legal and best practice guidelines for fundraising.

Training and experience:

  • A university degree or an equivalent combination of education or experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience of fundraising or related work, particularly with companies and their staff
  • Demonstrable track record of success in fundraising and (if relevant) in previous employment
  • Experience of working in the following areas are an asset:
    • international humanitarian organizations
    • the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement
    • international fundraising

Required Profile

  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills. Native or fluent German, fluent English, French desirable
  • Understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility programmes and the drivers for corporate / non profit engagement
  • Ability to develop a robust account management and supporter stewardship programme
  • At ease with senior corporate representatives, good interpersonal, networking and organisational skills
  • Self starter with drive to develop new business
  • Personal resilience, ability to operate in a complex international organization
  • Ability to be administratively self-supporting
  • Passion for humanitarian work and strong commitment to the mission of the ICRC

Length of assignment: 2 years, renewable
