Democratic Republic of the Congo: Children to rejoin their families
05-02-2004 News Release 04/10
The ICRC today brought 10 unaccompanied children from Kinshasa to Goma, where they were to be reunited with their families.
The four girls and six boys were aged between 10 and 18 years.
Unaccompanied children such as these are first registered and then, if they so wish, returned to their families, who are located by Congolese Red Cross volunteers. The children’s cases are then closed.
The ICRC, which has been running its programme for unaccompanied children since it began working in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1993, reunites families in all of the country’s provinces. In 2003, it reunited more than 1,000 Congolese children with their families.
