Ivory Coast: Thirteen Liberian children reunited with their families

30-08-2004 News Release 04/102

The ICRC has returned 13 children to their families in Liberia.

The children were all refugees, and were living in the regions of Toulepleu, Tabou and Abidjan. This is the ICRC’s second family reunification operation since the crisis in Ivory Coast started, and comes after contacts with numerous bodies and extensive research.

The operation forms part of the ICRC’s efforts to help west African children who have become separated from their parents, work that includes bringing them back together if they agree. Each family reunification means the end of a traumatic period for parents and children separated by armed conflict or violence, often with no news of each other.
