Study on operational and commercial and other non-operational issues involving the use of the emblems

01-10-2009

The Emblem Study was prepared by the ICRC pursuant to a recommendation included in the Strategy for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement adopted by the Council of Delegates in 2001.

The Study analyses 51 issues identified by the ICRC, following extensive consultations within the Movement and with States, as the most recurrent in relation to use of the emblems both in operational contexts and in commercial and other non-operational activities. By strengthening knowledge and understanding of the emblems and their use, the ultimate objective of the Study is to ensure greater respect for the emblems at all times, and, particularly, to reinforce the protection they afford under international humanitarian law.
