Arab version of "Women facing War" study launched

Geneva/Amman (ICRC) – Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Chair of the Second Arab Women Summit, launched in Amman today the study Women facing War in Arabic.

study The is a result of extensive research carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross over the past three years, which aims at improving understanding of the specific impact that armed conflicts have on women and the protection afforded to women by international humanitarian law. The study was carried out from a purely humanitarian perspective looking at how women were affected by armed conflicts in such situations as displaced camps, areas of ongoing hostilities, prisons, and assisted in hospitals and orthopedics centers throughout the world. A photo exhibition showing examples of women who have suffered and how they are coping during armed conflicts was also opened by Her Majesty and will be available for the public until the 1st of December at the Al Hussein Cultural Centre of the Greater Amman Municipality in Raas Al Ain area. Video films, publications and an Internet station are now available for public use throughout the duration of the exhibition.
