ICRC launches website to help restore family links in Haiti
29-09-2004 News Release 04/55
Geneva (ICRC) – Following the passage of tropical storm Jeanne through Haiti, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been informed of hundreds of persons who have died or are missing.
Many families are without news of their relatives and the chaotic situation prevailing in areas affected by the recent floods has made it difficult to obtain reliable information quickly.
In an effort to help restore family links, the ICRC has launched a website on which all those seeking information about their relatives in Haiti or wishing to let them know they are well can register their names. This action is being carried out in close cooperation with the Haitian Red Cross and other National Societies working in Haiti. The website can be accessed in English and French at www.familylinks.icrc.org
The information and lists drawn up by the ICRC will be published in the media and posted in public places in Haiti where feasible and generally given the widest dissemination possible.
