The FARC deliver four geologists to the ICRC

02-05-2007 News Release

The following was issued as a press release by the ICRC delegation in Bogotá

On 2 May 2007, in a rural part of northwest Antioquia, the FARC-EP handed four of the nine geologists from the Compañía de Servicios Logísticos de Medellín it has held since 13 March over to delegates of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Four other geologists were handed over to the ICRC on 28 March.

The ICRC is grateful to the Antioquia Airborne Health Programme (PAS), which, as in March, provided the use of a helicopter for the operation. It participated in the release at the behest of the FARC-EP.

The ICRC repeats that it stands ready to help find mechanisms to secure any other hostages and of the soldiers and policemen who continue to be deprived of their freedom for reasons connected with the armed conflict.
