Colombia: FARC-EP hands over two police officers to ICRC

The following was issued as a press release by the ICRC in Bogota
On 9 March 2007, in the rural municipality of Toribío (Cauca province), the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) released two police officers, Edwin Pérez and Carlos Jeferson Muñoz, and handed them over to representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and of the office of the regional ombudsman. The officers had been in FARC-EP hands since 28 February 2007.
The ICRC took part in the operation at the request of the FARC-EP.
The ICRC welcomes the spirit of cooperation in which this operation took place and stands ready to support any mechanisms set up to obtain the release of hostages and members of the military or police forces who have been captured in connection with the armed conflict.
