Japan: ICRC president visits Tokyo

Geneva/Tokyo (ICRC) – The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jakob Kellenberger, is in Tokyo for a four-day visit.

He will be received by their Majesties the Emperor and Empress and will hold talks with prime minister Yasuo Fukuda, minister of foreign affairs Masahiko Koumura and senior government officials.

The talks are expected to focus on the humanitarian situation in today's conflict environments and the ICRC's work in some of the organization's main areas of operations such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Darfur.
