The ICRC in the field: focusing on people in need

In 2013, the ICRC aims to continue its efforts to help communities and individuals left vulnerable as a result of conflict and other forms of violence. Despite the many complex challenges facing humanitarian work around the world, including difficulty reaching those needing help and growing security risks for staff, the ICRC will continue to place the person in need at the centre of its concerns. - Democratic Republic of the Congo, Katanga province, Lubumbashi. A mother and her three children are reunited after being separated for two years.

- Yemen, Sana'a, deportation centre. In this centre, illegal foreigners are detained while waiting to be deported back home. Refugees are allowed to walk in the yard for a couple of hours a day. The ICRC distributes food and hygiene items, in addition to making regular visits to the detainees to monitor their conditions of detention and treatment. It also ensures contact with their families abroad through Red Cross Messages.
