The harvest is over at Anju Prison Farm in Zimbabwe. Over 2,500 inmates in the Matabeleland region have now been benefiting from a balanced diet for over three months, thanks to the 27 tonnes of sugar beans that were harvested in July 2011. Together with the Zimbabwe Prison Service, the ICRC regional delegation in Harare has been working to improve food production capacity in prison farms by providing farming inputs, technical assistance and rehabiliting irrigation infrastructure. Sugar beans, groundnuts, cowpeas and vegetables were produced to improve the daily diet of inmates.
