The 30th International Conference
The 30th International Conference took place from 26 to 30 November 2007, in Geneva, and was preceded by the Council of Delegates (23-24 November 2007) and by the General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (20-22 November 2007).
“Together for humanity” is the slogan that the Standing Commission has adopted for the Council of Delegates and the 30th International Conference. This slogan aims, in particular, to highlight the Movement's willingness to form partnerships in order to address the needs of the most vulnerable people.
The Conference resulted in resolutions which included a Declaration "Together for Humanity". They were discussed in a panel and a general debate in plenary, in Commissions and in the Drafting Committee of the Conference. Discussions were based on background documents and reports that were submitted to participants before the Conference.
The 29th International Conference
The 29th International Conference was held in Geneva the 20-21 June 2006.
The three main objectives of this 29th International were:
- to consider and adopt amendments to the Statutes of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement consequent upon the adoption on 8 December 2005 of the Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and relating to the Adoption of an Additional Distinctive Emblem;
- to consider and decide upon the proposed name "red crystal" for the distinctive emblem of Protocol III;
- to create a frame work for the recognition and admission of the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
These objectives were achieved with the adoption by the Conference of its resolution 1. As an immediate result after the closing of the Conference, the Palestinian Red Crescent and the Magen David Adom in Israel were recognized by the ICRC and admitted as members of the International Federation Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The 28th International Conference
The Conference – grouping 181 National Societies, their International Federation, the ICRC and 191 States party to the Geneva Conventions – met in Geneva from 2 to 6 December 2003.
The main theme of the Conference was "Protecting Human Dignity". Its objective was to have participants accept the twofold responsibility underpinning the results of the Conference:
- to respect the law;
- to reduce the risks related to armed conflicts, disasters and disease, and limit people's vulnerability to their effects.
The Conference resulted in resolutions, which included a Declaration and an Agenda for Humanitarian Action. Through pledges , members committed themselves to carry out individual and collective actions in humanitarian field.
