Key Points
In 2012, the ICRC:
- provided more than 55,000 people with food and more than 120,000 with essential household items;
- carried out 184 visits to 86 places of detention, where more than 12,600 detainees had been held, albeit not at the same time;
- completed 19 water projects, providing drinking water for more than 740,000 people;
- supported several health facilities in Gharyan, Assaba, Kufra, Sabha, Brak and Bani Walid; this support included providing surgical and other medical items for the treatment hundreds of wounded people;
- donated 13 ambulances and 5 mini-buses to the Libyan Red Crescent Society;
- removed 8,948 explosive devices and 12,524 rounds of small arms ammunition in the Nafusa Mountains, Bani Walid, Misrata, Sirte, Zwara, Ragdaline and Tripoli.
