The ICRC and the Mali Red Cross continued their humanitarian work in Mali during 2013.
Food and basic necessities
Distributed 27,942 tonnes of food and 14,859 household kits to over 885,600 people.
Water and habitat
Supplied over 1.5 million litres of fuel to Énergie du Mali to run power stations in Gao, Kidal and Timbuktu. Electricity from these power stations made it possible for pumping stations to provide water for some 120,000 people.
Supported 7 community health centres in the Timbuktu, Gao and Bourem regions, ensuring that over 31,000 people had quality health care.
Deployed a medical team to Gao Hospital (head of project, surgeon, gynaecologist/obstetrician, anaesthetists, nurses and a midwife) and a surgeon to the health centre at Kidal.
Vaccination and treatment of livestock
Vaccinated and treated over 3.5 million animals against diseases and parasites.
Visited over 3,500 detainees in 22 places of detention.
Continued to support prisons in Bamako, Kati and Koulikoro, and to run therapeutic feeding programmes.
Promoting international humanitarian law
Briefed over 8,000 members of the Malian armed and security forces, MINUSMA and AFISMA on the principles of international humanitarian law.
