The ICRC regional delegation in Beijing

01-06-2011 Overview

In July 2005 the ICRC opened a regional delegation in Beijing, following the signing of an agreement with the authorities of the People's Republic of China. The regional delegation for East Asia also covers the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea and Mongolia.

The ICRC fosters support for humanitarian principles, international humanitarian law (IHL) and ICRC's regional and worldwide activities among governments, experts, armed forces, think tanks, media and the general public. The ICRC works in cooperation with the national Red Cross societies of the region.

The ICRC works with the Red Cross Societies to strengthen their capacities to build well functioning family links networks within the countries and boost their response capacities in mass emergencies such as natural or manmade disasters, notably on the Korean Peninsula.

The ICRC also supports limb-fitting centres in China's Yunnan Province and in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

The organization also has Chinese and Korean-language websites and social media. It produces publications in the region to foster interest in and understanding of humanitarian issues and IHL worldwide.
