Asia & the Pacific - ICRC Annual Report

In 2010, the Asia and the Pacific region was the theatre of the ICRC’s two largest operations worldwide – Pakistan, followed by Afghanistan. The operational environment in both countries remained challenging in terms of the scale and scope of humanitarian needs and access restrictions resulting from the fighting and inse-curity. In Pakistan, this was compounded by devastating flooding that severely affected millions of people in more than a third of the country, including many violence-affected regions. This led the ICRC to appeal for additional funding for its operation there.
