Summary:
This law, adopted prior to the negotiation of the Ottawa treaty, prohibits the manufacture, acquisition, sale, procurement, import, export, transit, use and possession of "anti-personnel mines" and "anti-detection devices" as defined in Article 1(2) of the law. It also requires that existing stocks be destroyed no later than one year after the law's entry into force. An unspecified number of mines may be retained for training purposes and mines may be moved, possessed or stored for the purpose of destroying or dismantling them.
