Summary:
This Law represents the first part of the Code of Criminal Investigation (which, for technical reasons, is divided into 8 parts) and, as such, introduces the types of action that follow various violations of the law as well as the legal conditions under which such action may be undertaken.

The Law was amended in 2003 (Law of 5 August 2003) so as to incorporate provisions from the repealed Law of 16 June 1993 on the repression of serious violations of international humanitarian law (Current Title I bis of the Code).
