International Day of Person with Disabilities – 3 December
On this occasion, the ICRC Special Fund for the Disabled (SFD) is emphasizing that the physical rehabilitation needs of people with disabilities are under-addressed and rarely considered a priority.

People’s needs are at the centre of the SFD's approach. This year the SFD has an impact on more than 15,000 people with disabilities, including their families and communities as well as on 42 different partner organizations from 59 projects in 27 countries (67% are governmental partners).

Mobility restoration enhances their coping mechanism and further improve their quality of life. Claude Le Coultre, chairwoman of the SFD : "It is important that these people are giving the chance to become independent and able to support themselves".

The SFD advocates, supports and implements articles of various Weapon Treaties and its projects are in line with the recommendation of the World report on disability produced jointly by WHO and the World Bank and with the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities ratified by 107 countries.
