Born in Mortsel, Belgium, in 1961. Jozef Nagels is a Belgian RIZIV Certified Prosthetist Orthotist and graduated in 1985 in orthopaedics and business management at the Institute Superieur de Formation Artisanale et Commerciale (INFAC). Until 1989, he practiced clinical orthotics and prosthetics at the leading orthopedic center in Belgium, Cebelor. He also concluded his Master in Public Health at the University of Liverpool (2012). Jozef Nagels joined the ICRC in 1989, Kabul, Afghanistan, 1989 – 1991. Mission Cambodia, ICRC, 1991 – 1995, including a survey in the Caucasus region. He remained in Cambodia and worked for the USAID supported INGO Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation as Regional Director of Rehabilitation for Asia, Cambodia/Vietnam, 1995 – 2003, that included a survey in Angola (1996). Returning to the ICRC with missions in Ethiopia as training coordinator and head of project (March 19, 2003 – June 2007) and Pakistan as head of project (June 2007 – June 2012). During his career, Jozef had strong involvement in many ISPO recognized P&O Schools.
Jozef Nagels became head of the SFD's regional office for Africa in July 2012 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, where he is currently posted.
Born in Aurillac, France, Joël Nininger first worked as a shoemaker before enrolling at the technical lycée d’Alembert in Paris where he obtained an initial diploma in orthopaedic shoemaking in 1988. Within the same establishment he then switched to prosthetics and orthotics and passed a “brevet de technicien supérieur” in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 1991 and the following year in Orthopaedic Shoemaking. After a short period working for a private company in Paris, Joël Nininger and an associate established their own practice near Orléans specializing in paediatric orthotics and orthopaedic shoes. He then worked in the north of France for two years as the technical director for a large prosthetics/orthotics company before joining the ICRC in 1998. Joël has worked for the ICRC in Cambodia, Sudan, Iraq and Myanmar and became head of the SFD’s regional office for Asia in August 2013.
Latin AmericaPeter Poetsma
Born in Amsterdam in 1954. He initially trained as a car mechanic/electrician and then graduated from the National Diploma Course in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 1979. From 1979 to 1982 he worked for the Dutch Ministry for Development Cooperation in the National Rehabilitation Centre in Guinea-Bissau. After joining the ICRC in 1982, he headed the organization's physical rehabilitation programmes in Ethiopia, Myanmar, Mozambique, Vietnam and Cambodia. In 1994 he graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow with an MSc degree in prosthetics and orthotics.
Peter Poetsma became head of the SFD's regional office for Latin America in 2007 in Managua, Nicaragua, where he is currently posted.
