Kinshasa / Geneva (ICRC) – More than 100,000 people are estimated to have fled their homes since armed clashes resumed between Congolese government troops and the armed opposition in North and South Kivu provinces on 28 August last.

Geneva/Bogotá (ICRC) – Jakob Kellenberger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has arrived in Bogotá for a three-day visit during which he will hold talks with the country's president, Alvaro Uribe Vélez, the minister of foreign affairs, Fernando Araújo Perdomo, and the minister of defence, Juan Manual Santos Calderón.

Bukavu (ICRC) – An upsurge of violence in South Kivu has forced thousands of families to flee their villages.

The ICRC has for the first time come to the aid of some 6,500 people who have taken refuge in the town of Kaga-Bandoro, 250 km north-east of the capital, Bangui.

Geneva (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is stepping up its humanitarian activities after months of growing hostilities in the Central African Republic.

The upsurge in fighting and tension in recent months in several parts of North Kivu (eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo) has prompted the ICRC to prepare to launch an aid operation in behalf of some 2,000 to 2,500 displaced or returned families in the village of Kalembe within the next few days.

The ICRC is stepping up its assistance for displaced people in Somalia: in the past month alone, it has provided more than 135,000 individuals with water, shelter, clothing, blankets and basic household items such as mats, kitchen sets and jerrycans.

Geneva (ICRC) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is approaching international donors to cover an increase of 32 million Swiss francs in its budget for Darfur.

The ICRC has stepped up its relief operation in Batticaloa district in order to assist several thousand civilians who have been displaced over the past four days by fighting between the Sri Lankan security forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Khartoum/Geneva (ICRC) – A series of violent clashes in recent weeks has caused some 15,000 people in Southern Darfur to flee their homes.

The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) estimates at around 5,000 the number of families from Tal-Afar in northern Iraq that have had to flee their homes and take refuge in surrounding towns and villages following the escalation of violence in the city.
