Khartoum (ICRC) – Twenty-six surgeons and doctors from southern Sudan are attending a war surgery seminar that started in Juba today. The three-day seminar is organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Geneva (ICRC) – Today, 2 July 2007, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) completed the evacuation of 30 Forces Armées du Niger (FAN) personnel injured during armed clashes in the north of the country.

Geneva (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is expecting over 40 surgeons and other specialized medical staff from various parts of the world to take part in its 18th war-surgery seminar, which will be held in Geneva from 30 March to 1 April 2007.

The ICRC held a seminar on war surgery for specialized national medical personnel, working both in civilian and military hospitals.

"War surgeons should be able to operate from head to toe in the worst conditions" says Dr François Irmay, head surgeon from the ICRC’s headquarters in Geneva. He continues: "War surgery often deals with trauma in difficult situations, where resources and expertise are limited. It is different from the type of surgery practised for civilian injuries."

Nairobi/Khartoum/Geneva (ICRC) – Today, the Lopiding hospital in Lokichokio (northern Kenya), which provided southern Sudan with war surgery and emergency medical care for 19 years, will be handed over to the Kenyan authorities by the ICRC.

The first-ever burn-management seminar to be held in the southern Philippines is opening today at the Zamboanga City Medical Centre.

A seminar on war surgery, organized by the ICRC in cooperation with the Russian Military Academy, is currently taking place (1-3 June) in St. Petersburg.

A training seminar in war surgery will be held in Bogotá, Colombia, from 23 to 25 May for a group of civilian and military surgeons from the public health sector. The Sudanese Ministry of Health, the Sudan Medical Association, the Sudanese Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the ICRC have jointly organized a war-surgery seminar for medical professionals in Sudan - the fourth to be held in the country to date.

A seminar on war surgery organized by the ICRC is currently taking place (May 23-29) in Sochi, in south-west Russia. Thirty-one surgeons from the Russian Federation (Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan, North Ossetia), Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are attending.

A three-day seminar on war surgery was held this week at Monrovia's Medical College.
