Transit camp in Sri Lanka for persons displaced by the tsunami – Seventy-five percent of the Sri Lankan coastal population were affected by the tsunami in December 2004. 30,000 Sri Lankans lost their lives in the disaster, and a further 500,000 people were displaced. Here, a fishing community huddles in a transit camp, squeezed in between the sea and a lagoon. The ICRC provided tents, clothing, food and hygiene kits to 50,000 families in the year following the disaster.
