Knowing the risks is sometimes not enough to prevent people from falling victim to cluster submunitions. "We fled during the war," says Shadi. "When my family and I returned home from Beirut after the fighting, we had little money left and had to tend to our orange grove or lose the whole crop. I knew there were cluster bombs around, so I asked for them to be cleared, but the demining teams were busy working elsewhere. I couldn't afford to wait, so I tried clearing the land myself, and one exploded".
