Liberia – helping people recover from war

Since the end of 2004, many Liberians have begun to return to homes they fled at the height of the fighting. This collection of photos shows how the ICRC is supporting returnees and residents to pick up the pieces of their interrupted lives.

A detention visit at Monrovia Central Prison. After several years of war, the justice system collapsed and is now being replaced. The ICRC visits detainees in several places of detention across the country to assess their treatment and living conditions. The delegation has also built wells and latrines in two prisons. In 2005 alone, the ICRC visited around 550 people in 35 places of detention.
