Hundreds of thousands of Somalis stricken by disastrous floods
Somalis living along the Shabele and Juba rivers, who have already suffered from a dreadful drought and whose very existence is jeopardized by the ongoing armed violence, now have to contend with the worst floods the country has experienced in recent years.

An ICRC team assesses the situation in a village in the Marere district – As most roads suitable for motor vehicles have been washed away, bringing in essential relief material is a real logistic challenge. The most urgent task facing humanitarian personnel is therefore that of evacuating whole families who have spent days stranded without food or drinking water on the roofs of houses and the tops of dykes.
