Hundreds of thousands of Somalis stricken by disastrous floods
Somalis living along the Shabele and Juba rivers, who have already suffered from a dreadful drought and whose very existence is jeopardized by the ongoing armed violence, now have to contend with the worst floods the country has experienced in recent years.

Equipment for providing drinking water arrives at a camp of displaced persons in the Hiran region – ICRC employees coordinate the installation of 14 water tanks so as to be able to supply in the first stage more than 100,000 litres of drinking water a day to the 45,000 displaced persons in the Belet Weyne camp. When this kind of disaster strikes, access to drinking water is vital in order to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases, such as cholera, which is endemic in Somalia.
