Woman with flour made from maize distributed by the ICRC, Jowhar village, Middle Shebelle region, October 2007 – The ICRC helps the population in this flood-susceptible region to bolster their coping mechanisms in order to reduce hardship when natural disasters occur. Residents can easily find themselves cut off by the waters, leading to famine and disease. In addition to seed, food rations and farming tools, residents receive sand bags and fishing kits.
