Somalia: the faces of an enduring conflict
In a country ravaged by more than 15 years of armed conflict and natural disasters, the light at the end of the tunnel still seems a long way off. A series of images that show the faces behind the conflict, and what the ICRC is doing to bring relief to its victims.

A woman and her children displaced from Mogadishu in front of their hut in the town of Dusamareb, Galgadud region, May 2007 – The ICRC mounts large-scale emergency relief operations designed to meet the humanitarian needs arising from outbreaks of violence such as those in Mogadishu in early 2007 and natural disasters, such as the floods of late 2006. In addition, it supports over 300 projects throughout Somalia, including rehabilitating existing wells and drilling new ones, recovering agricultural land and improving the production capacities of those who cultivate it. The ICRC also runs a large programme for the re-establishment of family links in order to help people who have lost contact with their loved ones.
